Simply explained, Medicare’s prescription drug benefit allows private companies to provide prescription drug insurance to Medicare beneficiaries who pay a monthly premium.
The coverage is available to all people eligible for Medicare, regardless of income and resources, health status, or current prescription expenses. Plan premiums vary by state so make sure that you have an Arizona Part D plan. Medicare prescription drug coverage provides protection for people who have very high drug costs.

To join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), you must have Medicare Part A or have Medicare Part B. To join a Medicare Advantage Plan that includes prescription drug coverage (MAPD), you must have Medicare Part A and Part B. You must also live in the service area of the Medicare drug plan you want to join and be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the United States. If you have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and you’re in Original Medicare, you can join a PDP, but you generally can’t join a Medicare Advantage Plan unless you qualify for an exception.
